Just back from south of here. Worked all day in a public health clinic seeing everything from a 1 month old baby boy with an inflammed umbilical stump to an oil rigger with a bad back to a man with an abscess requiring drainage.
People are very grateful here. One was so pleased she went home and brought us fruit from her tree.Looks like an orange mango but not sure.?Persimmon.Another bought us cookies from the store when she doesn't even have enought money for her medicines.Reminded me of that gospel story where the old woman with nothing gave her last few coins away.Every visit prompts a story like this. It's sorta like going to church each day in that you feel closer to God through these experiences.
The weather has been beautiful..70's and sunny...helping to dry things out plus keeps everyones spirits up.
Drove down close to the coast after our shift this afternoon to tiny devastated towns to see if anybody needed anything.Wish we could do more.
Days are long and draining for various reasons but go fast.Glad to be here though.
Gonna go get some chow with the gang in a bit. Thanks for all the nice comments.Much appreciated!
Later
Tom

It happens so often that we go out to be the Lord's hands and feet, yet we are the ones who are ministered to. Jen

Galatians 6:7-10

"Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth unto his own flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth unto the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not be weary in well-doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. So then, as we have opportunity, let us work that which is good toward all men, and especially toward them that are of the household of the faith."

Keep up the good work Tom!

Myowood Road

Hey, Bro!

I can't tell you how touched I am (and continue to be) by so much around your going down there to Louisiana to help out. As I watched you say good-bye to your family on Sunday, I felt both sad to see you go and also so proud of you for going. I'm LOVING reading your stories about the people you're meeting. I'm not surprised how much they are touching you...your heart is so big and so open.

After you left on Sunday, I went out for my usual walk down Mayowood Road. But this walk was different. I really missed you walking along side of me. I felt sad for awhile, then turned my walk into an adventure...like when you're around with me...and began exploring places I hadn't really looked at closely before. Discovered some really neat things that I want to show you the next time we're out there together. I'm looking forward to that.

I'll write again...I'm proud of you, Tom!

Hi, Basht!
Sounds like you are many miles and many days away from the wonderful, quick weekend at the Q. I'm glad you are finding people who can use some of your medical expertise and especially your compassion! Just don't slip and call them a f-ing invalid!!!
Is time passing quickly for you? The days sound like they are long for you, so you are probably quickly falling into a sound sleep...or maybe not with a room full of people sleeping on cots all around you. I'm guessing the food is not like Tony's (or even Maid-Rite.)
Keep on plugging along. We'll be here praying for you and your fellow workers. And the patients you minister to!
Love ya!
